About Me

I help families, self-employed professionals and business owners find mortgage financing that holds up, not just on the day it closes, but through every renewal after.

I trained as an aircraft design engineer. In that world, every structure is built with a safety factor: extra strength for conditions it may never meet. I still plan that way.

Since 2004 I have worked in residential, private and commercial lending, often on files the big banks had turned down. A good mortgage is rarely about the lowest number on a rate sheet. It is about a structure that still makes sense when life changes.

My Story

The Road That Brought Me Here

01

Margin for the Storm That Hasn’t Come

In university I studied aircraft design and manufacturing. The phrase our professors repeated most was safety factor: building extra strength into every calculation, for conditions you might never meet.

A plane isn’t reliable because it flies well on a clear day. It’s reliable because it was built for the storm long before the storm arrived. Years later, that became how I think about money.

02

Seeing What Money Could Be

After working as an engineer, I moved to Shenzhen and worked on large-scale bidding projects for a listed company. Bidding taught me that behind every number is a chain of judgment calls about needs, risk and timing.

I bought my first stock in 1992, studied international finance part-time from 1993, and started my own company in 1995. I wanted to understand the system, not rely on luck.

03

Starting Over in Canada

In 2000 I moved to Canada. Past experience didn’t transfer cleanly, and much had to be relearned from zero. What crosses an ocean with you isn’t your résumé. It’s the way you think through a problem.

04

Why Mortgages

When I started, Mandarin-speaking mortgage brokers were rare. Language and cultural barriers left many Chinese-Canadian families with only what their own bank offered, and a file that didn’t fit the standard box often had nowhere else to go.

So I became a mortgage broker in 2004. For more than twenty years I have worked with the self-employed, business owners, investors and newcomers, on files with messy income, tight timelines, or a flat no from the bank. Take the problem apart, find the real cause, then find a way through.

05

Beyond the Loan

The longer I did this work, the more I saw what sat just outside the frame of a mortgage. What happens if the income stops? Where does retirement income come from? Who inherits what’s been built?

That is why, in 2015, I added insurance and retirement planning through C COM Solutions Ltd. The mortgage is still where many conversations begin. It just no longer has to be where they end.

06

Foresight, Not Forecast

No one can predict rates or markets. Foresight is something else: seeing a risk before it lands, and making a decision while you still have one to make. You prepare on the clear days, so you don’t have to panic when the storm comes.
